Hooray! Summer is finally here! I am very lucky to say that my summer holiday break from work actually started at the very beginning of July, and I cannot believe I am already into my fourth week! We certainly have had some very hot weather recently, though it was short lived. Still, it was nice to see the sunshine.
And that leads me to my two new card designs I have launched to celebrate this sunshine season. "Suncatcher" and "Sunflower Smile" are designs incorporating one of my favourite summer flowers, the sunflower. I absolutely love the intense yellows and oranges of the different varieties, the colours really represent summer to me. I have fond memories as a child growing sunflowers in my Grandad's garden, to see how tall I could get them to grow. Needless to say they were nearly always a lot taller than me! That would certainly still be the case now! Both cards are available to buy in my online shop.
As well as the joyful colour and happy memories sunflowers bring to me, we must not forget the poignant reminder the sunflower (or soniashnyk) brings at present as the national flower of Ukraine.
I started the holidays teaming up with Artshack running an Introduction to Batik workshop. This is the second time I have run this workshop at Artshack, and I have to say some gorgeous work was produced yet again. Such a lovely and relaxed environment to work in – it wasn't long before our participants were totally engrossed in their creativity and new found skills. Many thanks to Maggie Allmark for giving me the opportunity. Look out at the end of October as I will be back at Artshack working alongside another Artshack member after the amazing success of last year's Mixed Media Christmas Card Design workshop. We hope this year's will be an even bigger success!
I shall sign off now and think of golden sand and blue skies, warm seas and great company. Not long to go.............
